Fantastic, right? To be frank, I myself have watched the video many times and wonder who is the guy creating such an amazing video. Fortunately, I grabbed a chance to have a talk with John Hsu, a member of AFK PLAYERS which makes the above fantastic video titled "Azeroth Movie Top 3". In the interview, he shared their machinima making experience with us.
Hope you enjoy it, and don t forget to check out their another interesting video "Good Evening The Horde" on page 2:) (All the video resources come from www.youtube.com)
MMOsite.com: Can you briefly introduce the members in AFK PLAYERS? How did you get together to form such a team?
John Hsu: There re 3 members in our team. Epla, Outy and me. We are real-world friends that enjoy playing WoW and all graduated from the same film school in Taiwan. The birth of AFK PLAYERS is since an official Taiwanese WoW movie contest. We made our first 3 WoW machinima including "Good Evening The Horde", which won the first prize in the contest. After that we decided to form AFK PLAYERS to make more machinima about WoW.
MMOsite.com: What is the motivation for you to produce machinima movies?
John Hsu: The most is from the audiences. We love the interaction between the audiences and us. They sometimes give interesting reactions and ideas that we?d never thought of. It?s really inspiring and cool.
MMOsite.com: Who gave you the most help during your production?
John Hsu: We like to thank everyone that ever helped us during the production including the actors in the guild who sacrifice their raiding time, the voice actors, and the wonderful music made by Hsiao-Tsao.
MMOsite.com: Can you say something about your first production? How did it come into being?
John Hsu: It s "Good Evening The Horde" which was made for the official contest in Taiwan. After we decided to apply to this contest, we started planning everything and ask the friends in the guild to help. We followed the process of real-world moviemaking with our own experiences in the moviemaking business and finished the movies in a month.
MMOsite.com: Till now, which of your productions you feel most satisfied with? And why?
John Hsu: I personally like the Doras part in Azeroth Movie Top 3. It s much more like our real style instead of just the clones of other movies. However, we like all the work we?ve done. They are not perfect, but we did our best.
MMOsite.com: Where did your inspiration come from?
John Hsu: The idea of "Good Evening The Horde" is from the Taiwanese television news programs. They are one of the most interesting cultural phenomena in Taiwan which are always so exaggerating, terrifying and full of conflict. We all found it would be interesting to make a WoW news program with Taiwanese news style, so we started to write the script and produced it and "Azeroth Movie Top 3" is like a practice to try different genre of movies such as romance comedy (Meet The Taurens), documentary (Doras), and the giant monster disaster flicker (Murkilla).
MMOsite.com: The voice in your works is really wonderful. Who is responsible for this part of work?
John Hsu: Actually there re no professional voice actors in the movies. They are done by ourselves and some of our friends. It is amazing that the result is better than we thought.
MMOsite.com: Any special habits while creating a movie?
John Hsu: Not really. They are sometimes random thoughts and ideas.
MMOsite.com: Have you been influenced in some way by some other works or author?
John Hsu: We love the machinima "The Brothers Tauren" and "Illegal Danish" They got some really good ideas and nice camera works which inspired us a lot.
