Kaos War Interview With Damon Grow
KeyWord: Kaos War, Shattered Reality Interactive Date: 2006-10-31
Summary: Kaos War interview with Damon Grow, CEO of Shattered Reality Interactive and Creative Director of Kaos War: Rise of the Fallen.

Kaos War is played from a 3rd person perspective, with a 3rd person action controls. Unlike most MMO games Kaos War delivers realtime action allowing the player to direct his weapons or powers in combat. The game offers a blend of melee weapons, ranged weapons and mystic powers and aims to balance out this blend by for example allowing melee weapons to be used to deflect certain attacks.

MMOsite has this interview with Damon Grow, CEO of Shattered Reality Interactive and Creative Director of Kaos War: Rise of the Fallen.

MMOsite.com: Would you start by giving us a brief introduction about yourself? What is your major responsibility in the team?

Damon Grow: Hi, my name is Damon Grow, CEO of Shattered Reality Interactive and Creative Director of Kaos War: Rise of the Fallen. My main job is thinking up all the amazing places and content the players will see and interact with. Overall I am responsible for focusing the teams creative vision into a cohesive product.

MMOsite.com: How many people are working on this project? And what are some of their previous experience?

Damon Grow: At present there are over 20 people working nearly full time on the game. Their previous experience comes from mods, other game companies and many independent projects. When I found these very talented and very qualified people and asked why they were not working for a major corporation, they all had similar responses. Many were dissatisfied with working for video game companies and having to make titles that did not impact the industry. So when I approached them with this opportunity they took it and so far it has been a great experience.

MMOsite.com: What inspired you to make Kaos War? Anything that influenced your work?

Damon Grow: Two years ago, I woke up dissatisfied with the way online games were designed, and as an entrepreneur I saw an opportunity to change the way we game. I always felt I would one day make MMO?s and after over 10 years of playing and testing, decided it was time.

I was a philosophy major in college and wanted to build online worlds. I wanted something more than just the next fantasy world. Something with soul and meaning behind it. Thus Kaos was born. I think when you start a project of this size it transforms and becomes a shared dream, with the developers and the players.

MMOsite.com: What challenges did you encounter while developing Kaos War?

Damon Grow: From the beginning we had a few major challenges. One was building a AAA title from nothing but hard work, passion and vision. Second was building an international team over the web and then evolving into a professional corporation, bringing the team to our Headquarters in San Francisco. I am glad we stuck to our guns and refused to stand down to make something smaller. Our goal is to make the largest and most successful MMO of our time, lofty and ambitious, but we knew with enough vision and hard work we could achieve it. The real test is when we release, the gamers will decide.
