You can see gold farmers in nearly most of MMORPG.Some people agree with them, some hate them.Whatever they are, after all, they have disordered the MMO virtual world and destructed the game balancing.Former PC Gamer editor-in-chief and current PCG columnist Gary "Gaz" Whitta gives a rousing call to gamers to stop giving gold-farmers business.Below is a sample of what you can originally found at Next-gen. There are many things about Greg [Vederman, editor-in-chief PC Gamer] that I admire. Most of these stem from the time we spent together as roommates and aren?t suitable for publication (wink, wink). But one thing about PC Gamer?s Editor-in-Chief that should be singled out for praise is his recent iron-jawed stand against those lowest among us ? the moral illiterates who conspire to excrete upon everything that is good and true about PC gaming. I?m talking, of course, about gold-farmers.
I know the exploits of these ethically challenged blokes only too well. Many is the time I?ve had to battle them for control of a quest area in World of Warcraft, or found myself hounded all over Ironforge by thirsty farmers spamming me tells like ?U GIVE ME 100 FOOD N WATER OKAY.? If I?m bored I?ll open trade with them, fill all the trade-window slots with food and water, and then go watch a movie while they wait fruitlessly for me to complete the trade. Ha! Wasting people?s time is funny, but eventually the novelty wears off.
PCG?s refusal to accept their advertising is a bold first step toward suffocating these reprobates. But it won?t do the job completely: there will always be less-scrupulous outlets who won?t be so picky about where their ad dollars come from. The only way to really cut off gold farmers at the knees is not by refusing to take their money, but by refusing to give it to them. And that responsibility falls to you, the community of players they target.
