The Acclaim brand was picked up by industry veteran Howard Marks in the middle of last year. Acclaim had been one of the great game publishing brands in the 1980s and ‘90s, before the old company‘s demise.

However, the new Acclaim is simply using the name, rather than the old brands or publishing style.

Marks was involved in the resuscitation of Activision back in 1991, and believes he can pull the same feat off again. His online bio reads, "He and his business partner bought Activision when it was in very much the same shape as Acclaim [last year]. Activision today is a huge success and why not do the same with Acclaim?"

Acclaim‘s business model is based on building audiences through free downloadable multiplayer games, while offering advertising and for-sale in-game items.
