
According to the Development Report on China”®s Cultural Industry (2006), the Blue Book of China”®s Culture released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, in 2006 the global online game revenue will reach US ”ē5.6 billion and China?s online game market value will reach RMB 8.34 billion.
The Blue Book says that, five years ago, the size of China”®s online game market was only RMB 30 million, however, the figure jumped to be over RMB 5.5 billion last year, approximately 200 times more than that of 2000. And this strong trend will continue in the wake of the growing popularity of broadband connections and wireless application. The Blue Book says that in the next five years, the entertainment market pattern will see tremendous change with game emerging as the mainstream of entertainment. The global game market size will increase 71% to reach US ”ē86 billion. It is estimated that in 2006, China?s online game market will mount to RMB 8.34 billion, accounting for up to 20% of the overall global online game revenue.
The Blue Book states that currently, China”®s online game industry has entered into a period featuring self-awareness and consolidation. Gaming enterprises will focus more on developing original contents. Concerning the industrial policies, encouraging development and enhancing supervision will co-exist for a long time and stricter supervision will be implemented.
