Remember the article about Richard Garriott’s attitude towards social game? He regard it as a dark horse in game industry. And Wetopia made the first step.It is a new social game from Sojo Studios and let gamers directly fund initiatives to improve the lives of children.

When you sign in to the game, it may remind you of one of Zynga's creations: players manage a mini-civilization comprising cartoony buildings. The twist is that gamers earn "joy" from their properties, which they then pass on to nonprofits of their choice. WeTopia plans to make money off ads and corporate sponsorships, and pledges to donate at least 20 percent of revenue (or 50 percent of profits if they turn one) to its nonprofit partners, dividing it up proportionally by the amount of joy donated. "While users contribute to a cause just by playing for free, "We allow people to buy a virtual good in the game that has a one-to-one relationship with something in the world," says CEO Lincoln Brown.
It seems social games tend to have more content to the real society. If you
watched the animated film "Summer wars" you may have some conception of Virtual
community–OZ. In the movie, real world and the virtual world is closely linked.
People can do all most everything via the virtual community from order a dinner
to observe patient’s situation. And everybody has a virtual role which can also
fight each other just like other MMOs. That sounds ideal right? If we really can
achieve this, our life will have a qualitative leap.
Social game may not
be the most important part of our life, but certainly it will affect our way of
living. Let’s see what it could bring us.
