Apart from amazing PvE gameplay and intense competitive PvP in Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet also prepared even more large-scale open-field warface known as world vs. world or WvW. The latest ArenaNet blog has detailed the exciting system and how they are planning to make the system come true.

The WvW is designed to have three teams fighting against one another on a series of huge maps in the Mists (the world vs. world battleground in Guild Wars 2). The benefit of having three forces in world vs. world lies in that it can prevent one team from getting too powerful. If one team (server) is becoming too dominant, the other two teams can gang up to fight against it first.

"We dreamed of a game where players could work together to capture objectives on the battlefield, like keeps and towers, claiming them for their guilds, then fortifications before defending them against hordes of attackers. With players from three different servers fighting each other, we knew that we would need a lot of different areas for them to fight over, and we wanted to have plenty of locations for guilds of all sizes to claim as their own. With this in mind, we created a number of different objectives that are designed to be captured and contested by large groups, small groups, or even just a few players."

Each WvW arena is made up of four gigantic maps. As ArenaNet said, "These are the largest maps they can make in Guild Wars 2." Each map is able to accommodate over a hundred people from each of the three servers, which means more than 1200 players can join in the large-scale battle at the same time.

To make WvW fun and easy for all the players, there's no level grinding required. You'll be using your regular PvE characters set at the same level when fighting in the Mists. "Any character below level 80 will be adjusted so they are roughly equivalent in power to what they would be at level 80." That makes characters of any level to combat possible and with a lot of fun.

The blog is rather lengthy but as one of the most shining parts of Guild Wars 2, it is worth to read the full article at the ArenaNet blog.
