With the reveal of Guild Wars 2's closed beta test (though it's some kind of family and friends type) and the newly released final class, mesmer, the discussion about the real public test date and choosing which class to play is becoming fiercely among the fans. And with the ending of 2011, ArenaNet updates its blog with a post featuring the achievement system, some changes to the thief as well as combat refinement and much more.

Three different types of achievements in Guild Wars 2.

  • Achievements are long-term goals with purely cosmetic rewards.
  • Daily achievements are short-term, easy-to-complete goals that reward you with gold and experience.
  • Monthly achievements are medium-term goals that encourage a variety of play and reward you with gold and experience.
  • Titles can be earned by completing certain achievement tracks.

    Some changes to thief

  • Improved Steal: Instead having your skill bar change once an item was stolen, now, stealing always pockets the item, allowing you to use your regular skills until you decide to press F1 to pull the stolen item out, use it, and return to your regular skills.
  • Improved Backstab: Backstab is no longer on the normal dagger skill bar. It's in a new category now called "stealth skills". While the thief is in stealth, the first skill will become Backstab, depending on what main hand weapon you are using.

"Making these improvements has been really interesting and fun because it has shown us how our game can feel appropriately action oriented without taking away the familiarity of the MMO genre."
