Character customization plays an important role in many MMORPGs, but in Guild Wars 2, you will experience more deep level of that thanks to the traits and attributes systems. Jon Peters from ArenaNet has posted a new blog to give us a detailed look at how these will affect the playstyles in Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2

There are four basic attributes in Guild Wars 2: power, vitality, precision, and toughness. But during the development process, the team thought this wasn't quite good enough. "We wanted there to be at least four offensive play styles as well as more diversity of builds overall, so we added several new player attributes to mix things up. These new attributes differ from the four base attributes in that they are only gained by investing points into trait lines and through gear. The four base attributes of power, vitality, precision, and toughness may be increased through traits and gear, but they also automatically increase as you level." Jon Peters said.

The blog also explains the traits system which helps you to build late-game customization and differentiation between characters. Each of the eight professions has five trait lines, and every line has 30 possible points that a player could allocate to it. A max level player (level 80) will have 70 points to assign.
