SOE announces to partner with German publisher ProSiebenStat.1 to distribute 8 of their MMORPGs in Europe. Games include DC Universe Online, EverQuest II, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Free Realms, Magic: The Gathering – Tactics, Pox Nora, the upcoming PlanetSide 2, and the next installment of the EverQuest franchise will be published by ProSiebenStat.1 in EU but the servers will still be managed by SOE themselves.

PlanetSide 2

In this case, EU players won't be able to play in US server anymore and vise versa. ProSiebenStat.1 will use a new account system which is different to SOE's Station account. However, EU players who are playing EverQuest 2 in US server currently can still play it with their SOE accounts. Other games like DCUO and EQ will require EU players to create new ProSiebenStat.1 and transfer their data to the new publisher. There are many details to be revealed in the future and now you can visit the official FAQ to learn more about the partnership and transition.

PlanetSide 2

While the MMOs that are licensed to ProSiebenStat.1 include PlanetSide 2 and next game in EverQuest franchise, there will be regional ip block for the next SOE MMOs. The good thing is that European players can expect to play localized version of PlanetSide 2 and dedicated customer service, and the bad thing is, they won't be able to play with their friends in NA.
