From what we know, NCsoft has put many efforts on the story part of Blade & Soul, despite the fact that the Unreal 3 Engine MMO stands out for its graphics and combat. There was report said that the developer planned to implement different scenarios to different servers (worlds). Recently, Blade & Soul's storytelling was mentioned again, and this time, the developer focused on cinematic scene.

Major npcs feature voice acting
In 2nd closed beta, players can experience 60 minute long cinematic scene. All cutscene is supposed to make the storytelling smooth while on the other hand, show players the emotion of in-game characters. Although cinematic scene is frequently used in video games, it's rarely used in MMOs since it could interrupt gameplay, especially when you are in a party. The developer thinks that players can choose to skip the cinematic but if they do that, they will miss a lot of fun and touching stories.

You don't see in-game cinematic in many MMOs
NCsoft tells that the cinematic scene isn't CG but real-time movie, and it's difficult to make one that includes a large group of characters. The developer says it's a pity that in the Longlin Village scenario they have to reduce the size of the attack.
A cutscene (see below) in closed beta 2 that featured two female characters' fight was talked alot by players, for it's like Angelina Jolie's action film Wanted. The developer says they have done many researches on movies and made them recognizable in Blade & Soul.
It's revealed that 80% of the basic martial art movements are made with Motion Capture while some difficult actions such as flying are made by Key Animation. NCsoft promises more exciting in-game cinematic for upcoming closed beta 3 and they release a video to show how the cinematic are made. It's a shame that there's no English subtitle.
