According to the latest quarterly update of Global Games Market Report by Market Intelligence Company Newzoo, the current game market share shows a optimistic growth curve.
Gamers worldwide will generate a total of $99.6 billion in revenues in 2016, up 8.5% compared to 2015. Mobile Gaming shows a speedy upward trend. It is predicted to surpass PC gaming for the first time in revenue this year, taking 27% share of gaming industry revenue. Countries in Asian-Pacific region continue to dominate worldwide, accounting for 47% of the market. China alone comprises over half of Asian-Pacific region revenue with 24.4% of global share, making it the biggest games market in the world. The United Stated come in the second place with a predicted market of $23.5 billion.
Screen Segmentation, another stats method to classy the market revenue by screen types, shows the current gaming industry status in another aspect. The revenue split has PCs in the lead with $31.9 Billion followed by televisions & consoles at $29 billion, smartphones at $27.1 billion, and tablets & handheld consoles at $11.6 billion. To be noted, VR is not considered as the fifth screen by Newzoo, given the current revenue from VR remain marginal, serving as a peripheral that falls under the purview of other devices such as PCs and consoles.
