At GDC 2016 Microsoft’s latest announcement of the New Feature: Cross-Network Play has unfolded a new gameplay mode for players from different networks. It will connect you from Xbox and PC devices through Xbox Live, while the participation of PS4 remains to be confirmed by SONY.
The first light of hope will fall upon Rocket League, the Cross-Network Play is currently available for Xbox and PC while it leaves an open invitation to “players from other networks”. It seems that Microsoft is implying to encourage Sony and other console manufacturers to participate.
Rocket League is one of the hottest games on all the three platforms and this pioneering trial of cross-network play on it will combine more friends and gamers together, which will be a good thing for developers and players. But for PS4 it seems to have this mode already in operation with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC, maybe the problem lies in a combination of two modes or enabling free entrance for both. So it is a long way to go before all platforms are connected to a somehow an abstract Global Server, but this new feature might bring revolution and new cooperation mode for each party.
