Star Wars: The Old Republic's 1.7 update will introduce a new Galactic Reputation system allowing players to unlock rewards by performing tasks for organization.
According to the latest BioWare dev blog, the reputation system is tied to the Legacy account, not actual character account. So you only need to complete the reputation grind on one character and all of them will gain the benefits. The reputation system is accessible to both free players and subscribers, though the latter group gets a 50% bonus.
