DUST 514: Five-year Roadmap and Live for another 20 Years Plan

Speaking with GamesIndustry International, Executive Producer Jonathan Lander explained CCP's plans to keep EVE Online and its upcoming FPS tie-in, DUST 514, around for decades to come, and to keep the game going beyond the current generation of consoles. Lander stated that Dust 514 has a five-year roadmap, and enough development ideas to live for another 20 years.
"Our plan is that we want in another ten years to be having 'EVE is 20' and 'Dust is 10' [events]" he told GamesIndustry International.
Lander also praised Sony's involvement with the project to ensure that the game will offer the same connected and persistent play as EVE Online. Not that creating a brand new, free-to-play FPS on console has been easy for the PC developer.
It's a huge and daunting idea. EVE is headed into its eighteenth expansion and still going strong - Lander points out the game's subscribers outnumber the population of Iceland - so there seems little need to take on a new and risky genre and platform all in one go.
DUST 514 is expected to release later this year.
