Cryptic is Working on a Free-to-play Model for Star Trek Online

China-based online game company Perfect World announced it has acquired Champions Online developer Cryptic Studios from Atari. Under the agreement, Perfect World will acquire 100% equity interest in Cryptic Studios, Inc. and will pay an aggregate purchase price of approximately EUR 35.0 million in cash.
Stated in a recent earnings call, Perfect World Entertainment revealed that developer Cryptic is currently working on a free-to-play model for its Star Trek Online MMO. The altered pricing structure will be put into effect alter this year.
