  • Summary: Now the developer has revealed the details of the November & December update as well as the early 2011 update for FFXIV. It's a large scale update that has been promised before. SE adds new contents and makes adjustments on almost every aspect of the game, covering the areas from quests to combat, from UI to market system. So, these could be SE's last bet and the question is, will you give it a try? To former FFXIV gamers: will you come back?

In a letter to Eurogamer a few days ago, Hiromichi Tanaka admitted that they didn't implement the feedback from the beta tests to the final version of FFXIV except for fixing some bugs. So, to some extent, what Square released on September 30th was a beta version, and that's why they failed.

Lag

As part of the version update scheduled for November, areas within the game will be partitioned across several servers to mitigate load-balancing issues and increase response times. In addition, a general restructuring of user interface (UI) operations will lessen lag and sluggish response times.

Quest and Combat

Some highlights of the update for quests are that there will be new scenario quests as well as new class quests in next year's update (means new level cap and new classes?). And in the November & December update you can abandon local levequests. For combat, SE makes adjustments to classes and combat balance and will make further adjustments in the early 2011 update. What you should pay attention to are the improvements to targeting feature and the coming of notorious monsters.

Markets & UI

In the November & December update you can employ more retainers and you can use an item search feature. UI got slammed most often and in the coming November and December update you can see lots of changes on UI as well as map: more user-friendly and more customizable.

A new UI geared towards users playing with a mouse and keyboard is currently being designed, and will hopefully be ready for implementation in a coming version update. The current in-game UI will remain available for those users who prefer to play via controller, while the newly designed UI will be available as an option for those who wish to use a mouse and keyboard.
