Blizzard Entertainment recently released World of Warcraft Patch 4.0.1, one of the major precursors to the upcoming Cataclysm expansion. This patch brought with it revisions to classes, talent trees, and the game's user interface. It will also bring about an end to the game, just like every patch since 1.0.

"The game is unplayable," muttered a player who posts under the name GimpPimp on the official World of Warcraft forums. "Blizz should either shut it down or give us a free week!"

When questioned about the millions of players who still seem to be playing the game just fine, GimpPimp accused the questioner of either lying or being a Blizzard employee.

World of Warcraft has become a worldwide phenomenon, amassing more players than any other MMO in history. Recently announced to have achieved 12 million subscribers, the game has enjoyed success unheard of in the video game world. If Blizzard wasn't releasing game-destroying patches every few months, imagine how much larger their subscriber base would be by now!

"Ever since 4.0.1 I've had nothing but laggy, glitch-filled play," said forum member xxTiamatxx. "This game is completely non-functioning and should be shut down until it's fixed. That, or we should get a free week!"

Every World of Warcraft patch, going all the way back to game launch, has been seen as a game-destroying, bug-filled, lag-inducing disaster that makes players wish for "the good ol' days" (this was true even back before there were "good ol' days"). This time, it's different, claim many of the more vocal forum posters. This time, Blizzard has really, truly, finally done the inexplicable: they have killed their biggest source of income.
