A Non Serious Look at Classes

By Vasily Tedeev
V is happy that he took up writing again, something he had dreamed of doing ever since he was nine years old. Being a nonconforming combination of a social party animal and a gamer, he realized that his life amounted not to just games and women, but that he had to pursue his passions and self-development in other areas as well.

While adventuring in one online game or another, you have probably encountered a variety of characters and play styles. Today, we continue to poke fun at formed class stereotypes and things we've come to associate with them. Welcome to the second instalment of class attitudes!

The Templar

Often called Guardian or Protector, this class does not mess about. Tactical thinkers and responsible leaders, they nevertheless, need to feel loved and cherished. It's common knowledge that most Templars secretly want their party to appreciate their hard work and cause all sorts of drama if this isn't the case.

I am big, powerful and I like cuddles in the sun

Full plated armour, huge shields, enchanted weapons, even armoured shoulder and knee pads allow this mean, nasty machine of death to go into battle and do...average to meagre damage. Yeah, lets be honest here folks - as much as tanks strive to look like badasses, they will never match the level of damage and brutality that Warriors can display on whim.

Pain, give me PAIN

This class usually has highest defence stats in the game and a very important role as the tank of your group i.e. the guy who enjoys tons of pain and likes to manage how it is received. One might suspect of tanks being closet sado-masochists who like dressing up in fancy outfits but in reality, most of them do it to help the party they are in. Whatever monster or fiend tries to get in the way, a dedicated tank is always there to help.

We are just friends...sort off

Once a tank reaches maturity, he goes into the wild, howls, sheds old armour which is to be replaced with a shiny new outfit and goes on a search for the right Healer - his soul mate. Being with a good Tank and Healer combo is like watching a husband and wife team that have been together for years and learned to understand each other from the get-go. As much as tanks like to be friendly with everyone, they will let you die over and over again just to save *that one special person*

The Ranger

In the MMO words, these guys are the lone snipers sometimes referred to as Archers or Hunters. With the ability to kill things swiftly and at a distance, a ranger relies only on himself and his wit. You might think that Rangers would be good friends with Rogues but turns out, two stalkers or loners in the same room leads to a lot of bad blood and rivalry.
