Divine Souls First Impressions: Promising Quality

By Dr. Professor
Ive been playing MMO's since ragnarok online first came out. I've always loved to make friends online. I feel like the more of a working world an MMO is the better. Thats why I love huge open worlds and big friendly communities. Most importantly is working together with team mates. I think that attention to detail and good art direction are very important to have in a game. It really bothers me to see that most games these days are quickly thrown together. So I'm on a hunt for games people worked hard on!

As I should hope you all are aware, Divine Souls went 1st closed beta July 14th(CBT1 will close July 21st at 3:00pm PDT) finally lending it's special brand of killing to the masses... or... luckily selected masses. Ofcourse I tried the game, and as much as I enjoyed myself, it's still in closed beta with the average assortment of glitches and issues. I can't review a game still not out of beta but I can give you a glimpse of the action. And there is more than enough action.

Divine Souls - Class Trailer

Divine Souls is a simple game published by outspark. The game mixes the quests and skills and all the workings of an MMO right into it's fast paced, action packed, console style gameplay. Divine Souls works alot like Dungeon Fighter if you've played that game. It gives you a word map, several towns and outpost which you can't fight in, but you can travel between. Thats where you pick up quests, items, skills, etc And you can access one of several instance dungeons in each map, all of different levels of difficulty and an easy, normal, and hard mode.

The Action

Lets cut to the important stuff. THE ACTION. Divine Souls has without a doubt the most satisfying action online that I've had all year. My favorite class by far was the fighter, the last one I actually tried, so make sure you mess around with all the classes because they play radically different. The most satifying thing in Divine Souls is it's combo system. Theres a ton of different button combinations an nothing feels better than to find out a new combo. For example, attacking 3 times, then grabbing turned my Slayers "Sword" into a Whip, with which she flung around a wolf, crashing him to the ground like a wrecking ball. Just as an example. The game is both about reflexes and knowing your character, some combo's a situational. For example, the whip animation IS LOOOONG. So if there is any enemy your not hitting with it, DON'T USE IT. Thats what makes the gameplay in Divine Souls so very satisfying!

Bonus Cool Stuff

Theres some nice features in divine souls outside of the action. For example: The rock paper scissors. At the end of each level you get to play a little game of rock paper scissors, or in the case of Divine Souls it's actually Attack, Defend, Grab. If you beat the NPC you get a great prize, if you choose the same thing you get a smaller prize, if you lose your prize is borderline worthless. The game also has voice acting for important quest sequences. Each class having their own personality. For example, the mage is a little apathetic sounding since she just recently learned to speak.
