3D at E3: E3 Gives Some 3D Gaming Answers

By Dr. Professor
Ive been playing MMO's since ragnarok online first came out. I've always loved to make friends online. I feel like the more of a working world an MMO is the better. Thats why I love huge open worlds and big friendly communities. Most importantly is working together with team mates. I think that attention to detail and good art direction are very important to have in a game. It really bothers me to see that most games these days are quickly thrown together. So I'm on a hunt for games people worked hard on!

When it comes to the future of gaming E3 Gaming expo is the only place to look. But this year at E3 the future of television, art, perhaps the future of technology as a whole was shown on a conference stage. I'm talking of the news E3 brought about 3D. And how it can be in your living room on the gaming system of your choice. 3D games have been around for a while (cough cough) virtual boy (cough hack) the big names in gaming didn't take it up seriously until this at E3. Or should I say ...E3D?

The last conference and one of the most 3D was definitely Sony's. A company that focuses on the "hardcore gamer", if they take up 3D they take it up seriously. And they did. A fantastic line up full demos of games were already prepared for audiences in full 3D. They showed off games I hadn't even HEARD we're coming out! For example a Sly collection. Remember Sly from the PS2? Get ready for all 3 of his games to be remastered in HD and 3D. Crysis 2 Dropped Jaws (atleast my jaw, I still can't find it) with strait up realistic graphics. Midway through the most graphically intense demo I have ever seen, they asked members of the audience to put on 3D glasses. Finally, maybe you've heard of a tiny little Sony exclusive called Killzone. Killzone 3 in 3D dropped remaining jaws with a nicely sized demo. "What Avatar did for 3D movies, [games like] 'Killzone' will do for 3D games." says Hirai. Oh what a sad day for the Xbox user! The rumors about Sony being the only system capable of 3D must be true! Not so my Xbox using friend. The Sony convention brought news of 3D on Xbox itself showing off Crysis! Crysis is a multi-platform game. Infact acording to EA it "will be the first major video game on multiple platforms to take full advantage of true stereoscopic 3D,".

Sony and Xbox arn't the only ones in the 3D game. Along with breaking away from the dreaded "Casual gamer" tag by unveiling  several new games calling back nostalgic memories (Kirby, Zelda, Donkey Kong), Nintendo also unveiled quite an astonishing piece of technology. The nintendo 3DS is the next biggest project and features 3D with, get this, No Glasses! We ofcourse assumed this was impossible up till now but we were wrong. Along with being backward compatible and showcasing full, real 3D, the 3DS also showcases graphics more comparable to the Playstation 2 than the original DS.

Nintendo 3DS

Unfortunately I wasn't at E3 recording everything I saw But CNET takes a nice look at the Nintendo 3DS for you here. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm going to go save up for my copy of Kill Zone 3, a 3D TV, and a 3DS. I've got alot of work to do.
