Let me preface this review by saying that I've never actually watched the cartoon that this game is based on. I didn't know anything about the exciting cast of characters I'd be playing as or the unique, colorful villains I'd be matched up against.
Whoops! That must have been about a different game. Hero 108 is a free to play grinding extravaganza in the style of other, better arcade style MMORPG's – games like Dungeon Fighter Online, Dragonica Online, and Lunia. A trip through this game will really make you appreciate other games in the same genre.
The graphics are cute, pseudo-anime and cell-shaded. Sometimes this combination works. This game is an example of when it doesn't, some of the scenes and layouts look like some drunk frat boy guzzled the bong water and then vomited the contents of his stomach onto the monitor.
The first time a player starts to deeply question just what sort of game that they're playing is around one hour into the game when they realize that they have done absolutely nothing but slaughter rabbits. The same type of rabbits, with different levels, and different skins.
Every game recycles skins right? Sure they do. But we are literally talking about 15 different types of reskinned rabbits all before level 20, and when they run out of colors of rabbits to throw at you they really get crazy and original. The rabbits come with rabbit babies that look exactly like the other rabbits but smaller. It's truly terrifying to behold.
Alright, so the monsters could use a little more originality, but the fun doesn't stop there. The game's default controls are something like a Mavis Beacon nightmare, where you're trying to type 100 WPM to make your character do something. Luckily, the keys are all able to be rebound, so that issue can be resolved quickly. After a quick edit, the actual process of running around and smashing monsters is actually quite easy and intuitive.
Skill system is... Well, it's not very inspired. Every character starts off with a few skills and at certain levels they can learn skills ones or improve their old ones, for money. There's no need to worry about allocation of skill points or stats or anything like that. There's nothing actually wrong with the skills, but they just feel boring, especially since in this game we get to....
