- Summary: If you've played MMO's for any length of time you're probably going to realize that most of them share many of the same characteristics. World of Warcraft, for instance, has inspired legions of free to play clones that all seek to basically create the same game hoping to grab some of WoW's success. Chances are, you've probably tried an arcade MMO as well, something like Dragonica Online, Dungeon Fighter Online, or MapleStory.

If you've played MMO's for any length of time you're probably going to realize that most of them share many of the same characteristics. World of Warcraft, for instance, has inspired legions of free to play clones that all seek to basically create "the same game" hoping to grab some of WoW's success. Chances are, you've probably tried an "arcade" MMO as well, something like Dragonica Online, Dungeon Fighter Online, or MapleStory.
This year marks the coming of an absolutely new take on MMORPG's that really hasn't been done before. The game is Valkyrie Sky, brought to us by Gamekiss (Ghost X, NIDA Online) and it's taking a very brave step merging the world of shoot-em-up "bullet hell" style games and the world of MMORPG's.
Yes, this means fans of games like Ikaruga, Touhou, Galaga, and even R-Type have a chance to enjoy that style of game in a MMO atmosphere. The game has leveling, gear, crafting, skills, "talents" in the form of a skill table, titles, guilds, and everything else you've come to love and expect in a MMO - it also has fast-paced, bullet-curtain action which will have you flying through haunted landscapes, perilous woods, and Nordic skies.
The game features four main classes each with their own take on the best way to survive the onslaught of bullets and barrages -
- The Swordman is as close as it gets to being a tank, but don't be confused - there's no "aggro" or that sort of thing in Valkyrie Sky. This just means that they have the excellent and highly valuable ability to block projectiles with their weapon, making them excellent front line units. This is of course, also their weakness - you'll typically have to be up close and personal with the bad guys to do your job.
- The Summoner is the "pet" class. All this means is that you control a sort of homing missile autottack that, although you cannot control what it attacks, will lock onto enemies and continue to attack them until they are dead. What this means is, you can really concentrate on dodging and weaving while your pet does all the work.
- The Magician is the "AOE" class. His attack takes time to "charge up" as it selects multiple targets on the screen and unleashes it on all of them at the same time, allowing him to clean out entire waves of foes with a single blow.
- The Bowman is an extremely high damage "pure" shooter class. This is the class that plays like many of the other shooters - he fires in a straight line ahead of him. The upside of playing a harder to target class like this is that your damage has absolutely insane potential, providing you can keep the targets in your range.
