The year 2010 has arrived unconsciously, and 2012 is coming closer to us too. Time is limited, and we have to aim at the year 2010 since we failed to enjoy our highly anticipated games in 2009. In fact, many great projects are just to start their tests in 2010 (Game producers are also threatened by the great "2012" crisis, and picking up the pace to complete their important projects? Lol…). Today, MMOsite Editor Jeff. L will show you several games that were highly anticipated in 2009 and are to launch tests in 2010. (Surely, the test schedules estimated in this article may be different from those finally confirmed. We'll be grateful for your understanding.)

Guild Wars 2/Blade & Soul

First, I have to tell you that only one of these two games is likely to enter its test phase in 2010. But it's more likely that neither of them will meet the audience in 2010. Why?

At NCsoft's Q4 financial conference last year, the CFO clearly told the investors that Blade & Soul would be the successor to Aion just as Aion was that to Lineage 2. Thus, as a game staying in the western market for less than one year, Aion must be unwilling to be replaced by its developer's another project. With high-quality graphics as the selling point, Aion's popularity among players has kept unchanged, even got worse since the climax it reached in the open beta. Reasons for such phenomenon include the botting problem and the lack of high-level game content. It'll undoubtedly be a nightmare for Aion if NCsoft releases Blade & Soul at this special moment. So, it's very possible that this year, NCsoft will only unveil some videos concerning Blade & Soul and continue to keep players in suspense.

We can say that as the successor to Guild Wars which has been operated for 5 years, the epic project Guild Wars 2 costs all the energy and resources of ArenaNet and is never allowed to be a failure. At the financial conference, NCsoft's CFO also expressed that the launch date of Guild Wars 2 would be totally decided by ArenaNet. That is, ArenaNet can release the game at anytime they feel satisfied with the development. However, it's not quite realistic to believe the saying completely, since NCsoft is just the investor and takes profits as its final goal. Obviously, it's stupid to push Guild Wars 2 into the market in 2011 and have it compete with Blade & Soul. Most likely, NCsoft will ask ArenaNet to release related demos and carry out tests where only a limited number of testers join, then collect the testers' opinions and suggestions to decide the next step.

The new video that ArenaNet unveiled on last year's Christmas for Guild Wars 2 has brightened the audience's eyes. It's obvious that the game has been largely completed. So, a certain number of lucky players will probably be able to enjoy the game's closed beta for a short time this year. The open beta is expected to start in the year 2011.
