MMOsite: Perfect World Entertainment's new MMO Kung Foo! has entered its first closed beta test since January 5th, 2009. Are you the lucky one who has engaged in the CBT? If not, don't be depressed! Today, we are honored to have an interview with freelance writer Devin Grayson and Craig Beers from Perfect World Entertainment. To begin with, will you both please introduce yourself briefly to our readers?
Devin Grayson: Hi! My name is Devin Grayson and I worked on the localization script for Kung Foo! Your readers may know my work in the comic book industry on titles including Batman: Gotham Knights and Nightwing.
Craig Beers: My name is Craig Beers, product manager for Kung Foo!, and your readers might also know me as the product manager for Ether Saga Online.
MMOsite: Compared with other titles from Perfect World Entertainment, Kung Foo!Does not have a high-profile marketing plan. The up-to-date game information on Kung Foo official site is limited. Can you tell us more about this game?
Craig Beers: Craig Beers: Kung Foo! is aimed at being a parody of other MMOs and so we've focused more on introducing the game in a way that players who discover Kung Foo! will be eager to tell their friends.
Devin Grayson: Yeah, we've kept many of the details of Kung Foo! under wraps because we can't read Chinese. No, I mean, so that we wouldn't ruin some of the big twists in the storyline. What I can tell your readers is that if you're sick of killing rats in newbie zones, we have rabbits!
MMOsite: How many races and classes exist in Kung Foo!? What kind of role does each class play in a raid?
Devin Grayson: We'll have six martial arts disciplines that players can choose from at launch and they should be pretty self-explanatory to MMOers. 'Sharpy', 'Mager', 'Tank', 'Slasher', 'Medico,' and 'Augurer'... but don't worry. If you're a newb, we'll explain.
Craig Beers: Players also start off with the title 'Grasshopper' to begin with and will work their way up to choose these different disciplines.
MMOsite: We noticed that there are a lot of adorable pets and mounts in Kung Foo!. Are dazzling pets the most highlighted part in the game?
Craig Beers: We have some pretty hilarious pets and mounts including a crab mount with boxing gloves, but I would say the highlight is the fashion items players can choose from.
Devin Grayson: I'm really looking forward to seeing how players dress up their characters. Another great thing about Kung Foo! is the transformations-kind of like meta-fashion, where instead of changing your clothes you change your entire avatar. Foo! will let you be anything from a fierce dragon to a semi-mobile pile of poo.
