KeyWord: Alganon, Preview, Lacked Dragons, Great Community, glitch in the matrix, Ardonya

  • Summary: You've delved into the fantasy genre more times than you can count. You've been in control of things such as orcs, elves, and maybe even fairies – but I won't judge. You've conquered countless demons and monstrous bosses. And on top of that, you've probably acquired some sort of epic sword or axe that would make even Biggoron cry. Think you've seen it all?

Allan Alganon Preview: Lacked Dragons but has a Great Community

Though a grizzled, old veteran donning war-torn robes and a gnarled staff in the MMOG scene, Allan is more like a level 5 squire in a simple tunic wielding a tin blade when it comes to the realm of writing articles. Nevertheless, he is here to train his typing fingers and bring you news and interesting perspectives on things you might not have known you even cared about.

Well guess what, you haven't. Quest Online's newest installment, Alganon is being prepared to be launched as a new P2P fantasy-style MMOG this coming holiday season (though this is tentative). Now you can experience fantasy Alganon-style.

What is Alganon anyway? You've probably heard it mentioned briefly, if at all. It's probably slipped under most of your figurative MMOG-seeking radars. This happens to be one of the endearing qualities about the company – instead of spending time boasting on their predicted success in the gaming market, the developers have been putting their precious hours into rendering the game fit for launch. They deserve much respect for that. But you probably find economics boring, so let's move on to the actual game itself and my impressions of it.

Initial Impressions

When I first loaded up this game, I felt like Neo from The Matrix. Sorry to disappoint you, but Neo actually isn't a playable character. No, I felt like I was in that scene where he sees the black cat twice, the "glitch in the matrix." I've played World of Warcraft for quite some time, and Alganon is the glitch in my analogy. Déjà vu. Anyway, I was given the choice of playing one of two factions – the Asharr, which are basically humans, and the Kujix being their opposition as well as having blue/purple/green skin.

I'm assuming most of the audience is human, so I'll leave out the details there. The Kujix, on the other hand, look similar to a human, except much leaner, have glowing eyes, and are comprised of a race called the Talrok (among others, but they haven't been implemented yet). And I've already mentioned the skin. There are four classes to choose from – warrior, ranger, magus, and the healer; I find they speak for themselves in terms of abilities. I chose the magus (obviously).
