KeyWords: Game Addiction, How to Manage, Help

  • Summary: Game addiction, or can we truly call it that. Addiction as a definition is an obsession, compulsion, or excessive psychological dependence to something. So if we were to think of it generally, mostly no one can really be addicting to games. As Princessdoll (reviewer of mmosite) has stated 'One of the main advantages of having an Internet Connection is the opportunity to reach out other people, wherever they are or whatever time zone they are in'. So that in itself means that it is a lifestyle, or a way in which you want to live your life. You are still communicating and enjoying your life the way you want. It just you are living a passive life compared to others. Though some others could have a serious case in which a computer is a means of life and that, can be a problem.

Note: I wanted to do a serious article before i go back and review more games. I want people to understand those who struggle with gaming and what it really means

Game AddictionCurrently, Video game addiction is not diagnosed in DSM (diagnostic Manual) or the International Statistical Classification of Diseases. In 2007, the American Psychological Association discussed whether video game addiction will be added in the new DSM in late 2012. Final Conclusion was that there was not enough evidence to prove a point. Though excessive playing is called game overuse are similar to those of other proposed psychological addictions.

hope this lightens the mood:

In that sense, all that time you spend playing video games, has nothing to do with a "disorder" or a "mental problem". It is your free choice to play by your standards, but its how it affects your life that matters. Just like the saying goes "Too much of anything isnt good" this can also relate to gaming. Gaming is fine to a reasonable time or amount. Playing on your time and understanding your limits is the hard part, and practicing your brain to your desires makes you feel like a bigger person at the end.

My Story

At the age of 13 with puberty coming along, i felt the need for action and adventure. That desire was fulfilled with online gaming, and i fell for its trap. I would spend 5-6 hours a day on clicking the button constantly on such games like Shattered Galaxy and Counter Strike. I played it not to spend worthless time, but for a sense of accomplishment and to prove something to myself. Though i was achieving all possible ranks and levels, i wasnt achieving my social life i dreamt about. Instead of going out on saturdays i would sit home with my "cyber" friends and play games until my hands got numb. However, towards the 9th grade i found 2 reasons to control my gaming habits or "video game overuse".
