Development of MMORPG Mabinogi II Accelerated

Mabinogi series, the representative title of devCAT Studio under Nexon are experiencing a bittersweet time.

First of all, the concurrent online players of Mabinogi topped 50,000 in August, which is a new record since the game went completely free for just 1 year. Launched in Jun. 2004, Mabinogi is becoming more and more popular for its interesting graphics and marriage system which are close to life. To expand the lifecycle, the game was announced to be completely free from Aug. 2008, instead of being free for only 2 hours every day. And after just one year, Mabinogi breaks the concurrent online players record and begins to attract more players.

The open beta test of Mabinogi: Heroes is postponed against players' expectation, mainly because the game is not yet smooth and stable. The dev team of Mabinogi: Heroes frankly announced the reason for the delay, which is therefore forgiven by players. Although the development is not going very well, the beta test will be launched in September and the expectation rises in disputes.

Recently, there were different news about Mabinogi 360 (the Mabinogi developed for Xbox 360 platform) and Mabinogi II (the traditional sequel to Mabinogi). In Dec. 2008, the team started to develop Mabinogi 360 anticipated to be rated as 12+ on Xbox360 platform. Though it's almost done and was expected to be released in the first half of 2009, all development schedules actually stop now, mainly because of the doubt of the market and disagreement with Microsoft on terms of the service agreement, such as the payment amount.
