As the developers at Runewalker Entertainment work on the finishing touches for Runes of Magic's first major content update, Chapter II: The Elven Prophecy, we got an invitation for an exclusive in-game tour of the Weeping Coast, the new area being introduced in the update.

I've been on a couple of in-game tours before and usually, the developers let you create your own character and then they give you super-buffs so the monsters won't eat you while you're walking around or taking their pictures. This time, Frogster's Sean Kauppinen and Chris Ducrest (a.k.a. "Icarii"), who were my tour guides, came with a pre-made female character for me to play with. She was a level 200 mage named Tweety and she was wearing a cute mini outfit and she had wings! They even got me a Pegasus to ride on.

Our first stop on the tour was Boulderwind Village, a human outpost, where Icarii showed me one of the new two-story housing structures introduced into the game a couple of weeks ago. According to him, the village is where most of the new high level quest givers will be, although we didn't see any of them at the time of the tour. There will be approximately 200 new quests plus new recipes to be found in Weeping Coast.

As we moved out of the village, we came across the first of the mobs, a moss monster that lived in the swamp. Although the thing looked fierce, it was wise enough to leave me alone but that didn't stop me from lobbing a fireball at it.

Next up were the Tiktaaliks, the mer-people who had allied with the naga against the humans, taking over their lands and generally creating trouble in the once peaceful land. True to form, one of them sneaked up on me and attacked while I was trying to take screenshots of the area!

The Throne of the Water is a beautiful area with waterfalls and lush greenery populated by water elementals that had been confined to the oasis for a long time. There is an altar in the middle of the lake where players can take quests, following the storyline of the spiritual beings who were locked up in this place by demons seeking to enslave them.

From there, we zoomed on to Ocean's Heart, another area populated by Tiktaaliks, whose main feature is an underwater dungeon designed for a party of six. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get into the dungeon.

Then it was on to the Muttering Forest, where we encountered a fierce tribe of trolls who supposedly offer living sacrifices to their spider god at their temple. At this point, Icarii decided to aggro a bunch of trolls and it took the two of us, powerful though we were, to beat them off. The point the developers were trying to make was that it takes a full group of adventurers to survive in the area because the monsters are tough and numerous.
