I was just doing my usual browsing of this site today, and I happened to glance at the "most anticipated games" list on the front page. It stated that a game called Blade and Soul was ranked first in that category. I have never heard of that game before prior to that, but it was cool. There probably was a reason why Blade and Soul was number 1. Then I looked at number 2. Aion. Number 3. Mini Fighter Online. All the way to Number 10. No Diablo 3.

Blade and Soul
I don’t mean to put down all of these games. I’m sure that they are all really impressive. In fact, I have just watched a trailer of Blade and Soul on Youtube. It looks really good. A bit of Devil May Cry mixed with World of Warcraft. The opening scene of this particular trailer showed a man (more like a man-beast, but whatever) beating the stuffing out of another guy, on the floor. As he smacked the living daylights out of the dude he had some metal wing-like things protrude from his back. I thought I was looking at a cutscene, until I saw the little damage counters. And all I could say was “Goddamn!” But that’s not my point. My point is how arguably the greatest MMO franchise in the world, could not even make the list of most anticipated games on MMOsite. The Diablo franchise set the tone for RPGs. Forget Final Fantasy. If you want to make an MMO, you put more traits of Diablo 2 into your game than Final Fantasy. People might argue that World of Warcraft is now the prototypical MMO out there now, and I would agree. But WOW took its cues from D2. It’s not like WOW was a brand new concept. Hell, they even come from the same company.
