Since the day MMO was born, it become a topic. Around this topic, we used to be excited, sad, annoyed. There are always some classic things about MMOs we should record. Since this week, MMOsite will track all those big voices in MMO world and share with you!
1. America's Army 3: Jun 18,2009 - The American Army has closed their publicly-staffed America's Army 3 development studio one day after the free-to-play action-recruitment-sim was launched on Steam.
AA3 Representative: We discharged that hard working dev team for the future of AA3.
We appreciate all the hard work that every member of the America's Army team has contributed to the project, and we look forward to delivering future America's Army game releases in the months ahead.
Former AA3 Dev - Feydr: RIGHT when you've just lost your job.
I worked as a Dev at AA Emeryville for the last year and a half and I hope I can appeal to your rationality and
common sense. I would like you to imagine trying to build a game with an impossible deadline, steadily declining workforce (via firings), A hiring freeze, constantly being fed misinformation, having the "higher ups" completely ignore your weekly plea for either A) more time, or B) more manpower, working a ton of unpaid overtime, pouring your heart and soul into a misadventure only to have the uniformed community scoff at you for uncontrollable variables….. RIGHT when you've just lost your job.
2.
ug: Speaking with IncGamers at a recent press event, Blizzard Entertainment revealed that their highly anticipated RTS, StarCraft II, will not include LAN support. Clarifying their decision in a follow-up report, Blizzard explains that the lack of LAN support "is because of the planned technology to be incorporated into Battle.net," which they'll be talking more about "at a later date."
Blizzard Entertainment: NO LAN for Starcraft II
we don't have any plans to support LAN. we will not support it.
3. GamePolitics: Returning to a theme that he touched upon often during the 2008 presidential campaign, President Barack Obama told the audience at a town hall meeting in Wisconsin that American kids spend too much time playing video games and watching television.
Obama - Chinese, Indian kis play less video games than we do
Even with the good schools, we've got to pick up the pace, because the world has gotten competitive. The Chinese, the Indians, they're coming at us and they're coming at us hard, and they're hungry, and they're really buckling down.
4. EduRealms' Lucas Gillespie has started WoWinSchool, a wiki designed to help teachers who want to use World of Warcraft in classrooms. Gillespie was inspired to create the resource years of playing different MMORPGs -- from Everquest to Dark Age of Camelot to World of Warcraft -- with fellow educators, students, and former students.
Lucas Gillespie: If my students were as motivated about Cell Structure and Function as they were about knowing the intricacies of a fight in Molten Core, they'd all have 'A's.
It didn't take long before I was convinced that these sorts of virtual environments must have some sort of place in education. How many times have I thought, 'If I could just use this feature or that, I could easily teach concept X?' If my students were as motivated about Cell Structure and Function as they were about knowing the intricacies of a fight in Molten Core, they'd all have 'A's.
5. China banned gold farming - In addition to its ongoing crackdown on Internet porn, the Chinese government has declared that virtual currency cannot be traded for real goods or services. That remides me a sentence Mythic (Warhammer Online) boss Mark Jacobs wrote on his blog in autumn last year about his hatred for gold sellers.
Mark Jacobs: Go to hell.
For those who might be tempted to think that we are doing this so we could offer our own service, or because we do make money off their boxes... let me tell you this. I've been offered 'a piece of the action' both personally and corporately in the past if I will either turn a blind eye or help them in their actions. This would have netted me and/or Mythic a very, very tidy sum, far more than we would see from box sales. My answer was and always will remain the same: Go to hell.
6. Remember the greatest WoW freak out ever? The first quotation is from BrotherX's first freaking out video. In that video, his mom canceled his WoW account. The 2-3 quotation happened when BrotherX didn't realize that he was being betrayed by his own brother on his moms laptop. He got crazy and starts making extreme threats to the computer.
WoW fan - brotherX: Stop freaking betraying me!!!
I will run away! And never comeback! I swear, you will never see me again!
Stop freaking betraying me!!!
I will freaking find you and I will kill you and eat your first born child.
7. Blizzard changed their publish of World of Warcraft (Details). Chinese WoW players have to face the days without WoW. But day withouth WoW is such a good news for other MMORPG pubulishers. Aion(CN) revealed their new advertisement: Although the WORLD has left, you still have an ETERNITY!
Aion(CN) - The Tower of Eternity
Although the WORLD has left, you still have an ETERNITY!
