Sparkplay Media, Inc. announced the closed beta of Earth Eternal, a top-tier free-to-play MMO, has begun since May 18th. Sparkplay Media, Inc. also released a bunch of exclusive screenshots of closed beta. An indie fully 3D title that can be played within a browser or via a downloadable client, Earth Eternal is positioned to take free-to-play MMOs to the next level.

The World of Earth Eternal

Earth Eternal's world is the real world...sort of. At release, the game will consist of Europe and possibly a bit of North Africa and the Middle-East. Some places, landmarks, and geographical features will be in Earth Eternal, such as the Eiffel tower, the city of Athens, and the Rock of Gibraltar. That's about where the similarity to the real world ends, though.
For example, Bremen is a city of Felines (cat-people) that was formed after the Anubians (Egyptian Empire) kidnapped a village of Felines in Turkey to further the Pharoah's plans. The Egyptian Goddess of Cats - Bast - is now the patron Goddess of Bremen.
The Eiffel tower exists, but has been reclaimed by the Great Forest and is now an ivy and vine-covered relic used as a meeting place for Treekin and the Beasts of the forests. The Rock of Gibraltar serves as the base for the Anubian invasion of Europe via Spain.
