Tabula Rasa's Memorable Farewell? March 3rd, 2009 by Theo, MMOsite Columnist |
On Saturday February 28th 2009, players in the shooter MMO Tabula Rasa from NCsoft logged in for the last time as the game prepared to close its doors. However, instead of quietly waving goodbye, the development team at TR decided to launch a final epic battle, giving the supporters of the game one more lasting memory and a chance to go out in a blaze of glory.
Excerpts from the official website detail what was to be some of the final "transmissions" the game would ever send to its players, including the use of a "last resort weapon" which would guarantee that "...if it is truly our destiny to be destroyed" then they certainly would be, as the transmission states, "taking them all with us".
The very last transmission detailed what was supposed to be a large scale final battle,
"### Incoming Transmission ###
The final Bane assault on Foreas, Arieki, and parts unknown will commence on Saturday, February 28th. Please join us to help battle back the Bane armies one last time!
The attack is slated to commence at approximately 8 PM GMT on Centarus and then later at 8 PM CST on Hydra. Servers will shut down at approximately midnight GMT and CST respectively.
Get out your best gear, load up on ammo, and raise a final cheer for the troops of the Allied Free Sentients!
### End Transmission ###"
Unfortunately, after searching for user made videos of this final battle, showing players being overrun by a horde of aliens, all I was able to find were a few videos showing character dance parties, stripper poles, and a whole lot of standing around.
Sadly, it seems even while taking its final breaths, what was promised could not be delivered...
