August 14, 2008, According to legend, the magical civilization of Atlantis attained its great prosperity from knowing how to create a material called Oriharukon. Naturally, many other nations asked and even begged for this information to be shared. Rather than granting these requests, the Atlantians reacted by closing their society to all outsiders. Anyone foolish enough to persevere was dealt with swiftly and harshly, by sheer force. In time, however, the entire supply of the four crystals required to formulate the substance were exhausted. Destructive campaigns were quickly mounted to conquer the rest of the world in the desperate hope of finding more.
The lore for Ndoors' Atlantica Online says that without the powers provided by the Oriharukon, Atlantis soon disappeared. However, it seems some of the material still exists after all. What's more, it's poisoning the gameworld, which combines elements from our real one and mythology. Not surprisingly, the players' primary objective is to prevent this from producing a complete global disaster. Launching this year, the massively multiplayer title emphasizes strategic thinking while mixing in a range of noteworthy features like turn-based combat, an advancement system that applies to both the player characters and their NPC mercenaries, and a territory management component.
Dungeons
Taking the trip through Atlantica Online is like no other journey you're likely to embark upon in the massively multiplayer category. You won't find yourself in an entirely fictional world like you would in the vast majority of other releases. Instead, the destinations you'll visit and explore are, in a pretty literal sense, the stuff of legends.

One particularly fun and interesting element - even if it's being based on world history may initially seem less than instantly inspiring - is the game's backdrop. It's our Earth at different moments in time. As the players make their way around the globe to uncover the clues that will ultimately lead them to Atlantis, they will travel to our virtual adaptations of such famed real locations as the Taj Mahal in India and the pyramids of Egypt.

We thought the best way to take advantage of these magnificent wonders of the world would be to make them into dungeons that must be explored within our various quests. In designing these locations, we also wanted to draw upon the legends and folklore surrounding them to create the monsters and bosses that players must battle. For example, those looking to find clues in the pyramid must get past Khufu, the cruel and ruthless Egyptian pharaoh who is believed to have had the famous one in Giza built, and to have been buried there along with many others he had killed to keep him company in the afterlife. Fittingly, in Atlantica, there are also his mummy minions you must defeat.
