An average of 765 dollars per year on games spent.
We all know that gaming is an increasingly expensive hobby, with collector's editions and plastic peripherals driving individual games into the triple-digits. A new survey out today tabulates all those 60-plus dollars purchases to come to some pretty startling results.
The survey, conducted by GameStrata, shows that from ages 18-48 the average gamer spends over 30,500 dollars on videogames and hardware. This amounts to about 765 dollars per year for each individual gamer. Microtransactions and downloadable content accounted for part of the large numbers, with 85% of respondents saying they had purchased virtual products in the past month. In addition, 40% claimed they play 6-10 hours of online games per week, making online functionality a (predictably) big component of sales.
