MMOsite: For those who know nothing or little about Richman Online, what would you like to say about the game in overall?
Jax Chou: Richman Online has been a popular game in the Taiwanese market for a number of years, but this is the first time Softstar has made an online addition to the franchise. It has more functions and features then any of the previous, offline versions to provide an exciting experience to players all over the world.
MMOsite: Casual MMOs are very popular and have a large market share in Asia. But U.S. players seem to prefer traditional MMORPGs. What are the reasons for you to bring it into the U.S. market? How do you see the prospects of casual MMOs, particularly Richman Online in the U.S.?
Jax Chou: Richman Online is a perfect fit with Aeria#DY#s other offerings. It#DY#s our first casual peer-to-peer MMO, and we hope that it#DY#ll provide our members with a different sort of game that can be a "transitional game" for players to play between switching titles, or as a complementary game to whichever of our games they already play. It#DY#s a game with a quick payoff, so it#DY#ll help people stay on our game portal.
MMOsite: In my opinion, it plays like Monopoly. Do you agree with me? How would you compare Richman Online with Monopoly? What will be the major innovations?
Jax Chou: Monopoly is definitely the major comparison to Richman Online, and it#DY#s what most players will think of where they start up their first game. The major innovations in Richman Online come from the fact that it combines aspects of both board games and online games, so there can be a whole bunch of things going on in the background like stock trading, time bombs, and effects that last several turns. Richman Online leverages the fact that it#DY#s a video game to have a more robust system, especially with the different cards players can stockpile and use.
