We just checked out a very adult-themed free massively multiplayer online role-playing game called Requiem: Bloodymare. It isn't adult themed in that it takes itself seriously, it's still set in a fantasy setting. it's adult because it is gory and shows boobies. Within moments of the demo's start, we saw bodies being ripped apart, sometimes quivering on the ground and centaurish female monsters that quivered in their own special way even while alive.
Shock value is good and all, but it will start to feel like a gimmick without a substantial game to back it up. Thankfully, gore and anatomically correct monsters aren't the only things that could potentially help this game stand out. Requiem surprised us with its complex class system. Players pick from one of three humanoid races, then pick if they want to focus on melee or magic. Once they pick their base class, they can go into a secondary level of their class, working out skills that they want to specialize in (a warrior might go defensive or offensive, a caster might go for healing or damage). This looked fairly intricate on its own, but it goes even deeper. Since the world of Requiem is all about mixing science and magic, players can also manipulate their character's DNA, allowing them to switch and combine any five genetic abilities (it was also stated that combing undisclosed sequences of genes will allow players to unlock a sixth slot for DNA).
