The website of STRATICS released an interview with Hermann Peterscheck. Hermann Peterscheck, Producer of Jumpgate Evolution, was more than willing to talk about the game and delve into the dark corners of its vast universe.
The details are as below:
A decade ago a startup company by the name of NetDevil began developing its first product: a space combat massively multiplayer online game called Jumpgate. It was an awkward time for MMO developers because Ultima Online and EverQuest had not yet been released and the term "massively multiplayer" wasn´t recognized. The common belief in the game industry was that technology limited multiplayer capabilities to a maximum of 32 players. NetDevil had the arduous task of vying for investors and publishers before the feasibility of MMOs became common knowledge.
Luckily for MMO gamers they were successful. On July 17, 2001 Jumpgate launched and quickly amassed thousands of subscribers. The game was well-received and quite innovative for the time, but it didn´t manage to garner mass appeal. The name NetDevil wouldn´t become heavily recognized until a few years later when the PR-machine started churning for Auto Assault, a title developed by NetDevil and published by NCsoft.
