At this Austin Game Developers Conference, Mike Morhaime, the Blizzard president talked about the surprise success of World of Warcraft.
With over 9 million WoW subscribers worldwide, it seems that Blizzard had totally victory on its target. However Morhaime claims:"We´re our own target market, We play our own games. We feel as though if we like our games, everyone outside the walls will like them as well."
Morhaime repeatedly emphasized that a game maker can´t only be focused on the quarter, but it has to look at the long term and build itself as a brand. He also said Blizzard focuses on building a game that is right, not one that analysts tell them is right. While they´re big fans of playtesting, the primary focus is on what they themselves feel the game should be.
