As we know, in recent years, MMORPGs has run in different ways. Some of developers allows their games pay to play such as World of Warcraft and Lineage 2, while some are f2p (free to play), like: Sword of the New World, Flyff, Archlord, etc.
Which kind of business models do you like best? Players react differently.
Lainey and Krayon are two common players who prefer f2p to p2p.
Lainey liked f2p for it free charge, she said:" I like F2P. With P2P I am not certain if I can commit enough time in a month to be worth the payment. Also, with P2P I´m not sure if I´ll like the game. With F2P, I can easily ask my friends to join me. With P2P it would be much more difficult." As the same, Krayon said he play f2p for he don´t have to spend money on a hobby.
Besides that, we asked a few questions about their favorite games.
Q1: Which MMORPG do you like best? The business model of that MMORPG? And Which its feature attracts you?
Lainey: At the moment I do not have a favourite MMORPG, and I have tried many. However the one that I like best would have to be Sword of the New World, especially now since it has recently converted to a F2P model.
I think it´s the new Victorian-esque environment, and the different and unique gameplay that has attracted me to the game.
Krayon: RO2. I´ve always liked ragnarok and they add more stuff to the second one and better graphics and ragnarok was my first mmorpg.
Q2: How much money you have paid on that MMORPG per month? Which item or service do you purchase most usually?
Lainey: I played the game in beta so paying was not possible, and it JUST converted to F2P so I haven´t had a chance to even get into it to buy something from the cash shop...
Krayon: I dont spend money on mmorpgs lol.
Q3: If a game was F2P in OBT, but change to P2P in formal launch, will you leave it and find another F2P game?
Lainey: Yes, a perfect example was Sword of the New World. Once it became P2p with the official launch, I left along with my friends. I moved onto other F2P games. However since it has converted back to F2p, I am now back into it.
Krayon: Ya probably lol, cause most of my friends wouldnt be able to play with me.
Q5: In your opinion, what is the most difference between F2P game and P2P game, will you stick to the game type base your opinion?
Lainey: I feel that the developers put a lot more money into P2P games. Though I think they have to be extremely careful in their planning, because it might not be successful as a P2P model. For instance a future game Aion will be P2P, but the graphics and gameplay are absolutely stunning. if I find a promising enough P2P game, I will try it out.
Krayon: The most difference I think is the level of developmental service O_o like bugs in a p2p have to be fixed immediately but thats not the case in a f2p. but I still like some f2p cause everyone can play it.
In a word, players like f2p for different reasons. The advantage of f2p is players can play games without monthly fee, but is it all? What´s your opinion?
