I?ve just been reading a bunch of posts from people that are absolutely PISSED that they are having to wait for the Open Beta version of 2Moons!

I totally get it. It makes me happy ¨C as they are so passionate, it also makes me sad ¨C as poor old Jill had promised to find out (and update everyone), only to find out that the developers need up to 60 days for the new build to be given to us. She was SOOO worried about having to make that post, but she had made a promise to the people here and she kept it.

When I look at games like Spore, which are years late¡. 10 months was the latest push, after the last 12 month push. It seems like we¡¯ve all gone mad?

Some games just never even seem to show up, like Duke Nukem.

Even games we all love disappeared for a long time. (Half Life 2, remember when many people, me included, went out and bought new PC¡¯s to run it on, a month before it slipped another year.)

Anyway, some people seem to be pretty shocked that our development partner in Korea has slipped the title. While I would love them to have cracked the system on how not to delay releases, they have their own reasons, their own systems, their own procedures, and their own business structure, so they get to work how they want to work. Acclaim is the new kid on the block, and certainly can¡¯t tell them how to run their company.

In Korea this game has 150,000 people playing it simultaneously! They also have the #1 Game in the Country. So we have the RIGHT developer. I¡¯ve also seen some of the new stuff coming and it really is very exciting, so they are HEAVILY investing into 2Moons. In a weird way, the delay helps us catch up with the new features. (So we can release them to you much sooner after launch than they are able to.)

We met with them recently in LA (they flew out to do the pre-flight checks on the Acclaim engineering team) and we explained in GREAT detail why it¡¯s a bad idea to delay our launch, but they did and sadly Acclaim and my team gets blamed.

For the record, we didn¡¯t ask for anything else, we didn¡¯t change our minds on anything, Acclaim is just patiently waiting for the code to be handed over from the developers. The billing system is the biggest problem right now, not really technically difficult, but has been left to last. It has to be coded and tested as the Acclaim Coins system is different than theirs in Korea. Acclaim wants you to be able to use the same coins in any Acclaim games , this means interfacing closely & securely with Acclaim hardware & databases. So if Acclaim are to be blamed for anything it would be for wanting to keep this rule. (Personally I support it.) I¡¯ve played a build that had everything else working pretty well, it¡¯s cool to see new characters and mounts etc.

We did get some hackers show up and they have forced a bunch of new hires at Acclaim (at the insistence of the developer) to protect the game to the maximum possible extent. Sounds easy, ¡°Ok just hire them!¡±. But then you need to find them (tough in the MMO space), relocate them, train them etc. They are in the training mode now, they grow by ¡°Security +1¡± every day. (This game will be managed here in the USA by Acclaim, published by Acclaim and run by Acclaim, so members of the development team will fly over to help with the launch, and final on-site training.)

Anyway, I (like you) am just patiently waiting. If I could speed up any area, I would.

My team is constantly looking for ways to get this done quicker. If flying to Korea would make it go faster, I¡¯d be on the plane tonight, but for now I just need to be patient. They know what they need to do and are doing it.

We are all ready, and our community is ready. To save people having to wait around (I¡¯m STUNNED so many have read the announcement already) we will do an email blast when the client arrives, so the really loyal fans of this game can dive right in.

I look forward to experiencing this final Open Beta build with you all.
