December 14th, the Amendment to the Gaming Industry Rejuvenation Act, aiming to prohibit in-game currency trade, was approved by Korea¡¯s National Assembly.
The amendment prescribes that nobody is allowed to exchange, do brokerage business on, or buy any tangible and intangible items, including game points, in-game currency and giveaways obtained in the game. According to the amendment, companies engaging in in-game currency brokerage business and the behavior of exchanging in-game currency for real cash are illegal.
However, the amendment will take effect three months after the approval. Is it because there are still some controversies on in-game item trade?
