December 14th, the Amendment to the Gaming Industry Rejuvenation Act, aiming to prohibit in-game currency trade, was approved by Korea’s National Assembly.
The amendment prescribes that nobody is allowed to exchange, do brokerage business on, or buy any tangible and intangible items, including game points, in-game currency and giveaways obtained in the game. According to the amendment, companies engaging in in-game currency brokerage business and the behavior of exchanging in-game currency for real cash are illegal.
However, the amendment will take effect three months after the approval. Is it because there are still some controversies on in-game item trade?
