Summary:August 23rd,the Sickbay Update is planned to go live.
August 23rd - the Sickbay Update is planned to go live. This update is partially based on player requests for semi-permanent injuries, and it affects various gameplay elements, repairs in particular.

But already today, after patching time, the Davincians will be able to start their training in curing diseases and injuries, and if the players are dedicated they can master the surgery skill and have the capability to help out even the most severely injured players. 

5 new production skills:
The new production skills will enable players to produce consumables and items to cure diseases and injuries. The more you specialize in a skill the more powerful drugs and medical tools you will be able to produce.

Medical Items

Allows the production of medical items. Medical Items are required to cure diseases and injuries. You will need certain skills to handle the different medical Items.

Medications

Allows the production of basic medications. To get access to more effective drugs players will have to specialize in the following trees. Medications won?t cure you, but will keep down side effects from diseases.

Anesthetic (Medications as prerequisite)

Allows the production of anesthetics. These cover all pain curing consumables.

Trauma care (Medications as prerequisite)
Allows the production of trauma care items. These cover all trauma curing consumables.

Stimulants (Medications as prerequisite)
Allows the production of stimulants. These cover all depletion curing consumables.

2 new science skills


First Aid
Allows the use of basic medical items
This skill will give you the ability to use the first aid kit which will allow you to cure minor injuries and diseases.

Surgery (First Aid as prerequisite)

Allows the use of advanced medical items. This skill will be necessary if you wish to cure more severe injuries and diseases.

Improved repair gameplay with added challenge


That was the cure, here comes the cause.

All these lovely new medical skills do of course need patients and thus we have created injuries, health stats and nasty side effects.

With the implementation of the Sickbay Update players will gain 3 bars: Depletion, pain and trauma. These represent the overall health of the player and should be kept as low as possible.

Injuries come from repair jobs. After the Update each repair job will have a chance of spawning a repair event, which will require the player to fix an amount of a specific damage type before a timer runs out.

These repair events can be either good, which, if successfully repaired, will make the job faster to finish. Or they might be bad; in which case they, if the player is unsuccessful, will either make the repair job worse or in worst case scenario will inflict an injury upon the player.

Injuries themselves generally have little impact on the player?s ability to perform in-game, but if they are not treated they will continuously add trauma, depletion and pain and if these gets high enough side effects will start to occur.

Side effects will typically impact your repair speed and quality, but might also influence your walk/run speed or even cause you to temporarily loose a skill.

All side effects can be kept down, but not cured, by consumables. To remove side effects fully you need to cure the injury.

Please keep in mind that except for the skills everything above is still in testing and changes might occur before this hits the live server.
