This was, until the recent past, a school of learning for elven sorcerers, druids and necromancers.  At some point, a sub-sect of the school that worshiped Kaon (god of chaos) succeeded in a sort of coup that has resulted in the school that we see in game.  The area was once a place of great learning, but since Kaon has touched the grounds, everything has become warped version of what it once really was.  What I was going for when populating and creating aspects of the Lyceum was to leave a sense of uncontrolled magic in the air, a sense that things have gone very wrong in the Elven School.
