Carpe Diem is an exciting new MMORPG.The game features several new innovations that have not been tried before in MMO gameplay. I am glad to have an interview with Jonathan Latham,the Managing Director of Persistent Worlds the European Publisher of 9Dragons.

MMOsite.com: The goal of players is collecting 4 weapons of legend and beating down the Uzziel, what wiil you do to enrich the process of achieving the goal?
Jonathan Latham:
The main quests themselves are not easy. As I said above fearsome guardians defend the weapons and these must be defeated in order for a regiment to hold one of the weapons. Uzziel will interfere to make things harder and the Guardians will require the regiments to defend their right to hold the weapons. Regiments must prove themselves worthy to be able to gain the respect of the Guardian. This is a big story.

MMOsite.com: Can you give us some brief info about the 3 special races in Carpe Diem?
Jonathan Latham: Yes, the three races are humans, fey and dragonbloods. Humans possess no magical abilities at lower levels but can be fearless Knights or archers with exclusive skills in their chosen professions. The fey are a beautiful magical people who can use either offensive or defensive magic. Uniquely in the game they have the ability to possess humans and thus become one fighting unit with them. The dragonbloods are a much older race and have both magic and weapons skills. They are fearsome to look at and very strong. They have distinctive weapons and magical abilities.

MMOsite.com: What plans do you have for community development and support? And what role do groups play in the game?
Jonathan Latham:
Community is at the heart of this game. Essentially, this is a cooperative team-based game, although you can solo if you wish to. There are many different ways to group together. You can form a possessed unit between two players, or you can get into groups of up to eight people. Above that, you are invited to join one of the Kings regiments, which can contain 50 people. The regimental captains will define the symbol for the regiment and also the key tasks the regiment must perform. There will be a command structure in the regiments so that if the captain is not on the field then one of his lieutenants will take over the tactical command.

MMOsite.com: Every gamer will have his own mount. How do you define mount and what are the differences between different races? mounts?
Jonathan Latham:
There are three main mounts. Humans have horses, although at certain levels these can become unicorns. Fey have armoured bears and dragonbloods have bull like mounts. One of the exciting features of this game is that the mounts have their own individual characters and statistics. You can also learn special riding skills that allow your mount to make attacks independently of you. For example a skilled Knight on horseback can train his mount to trample enemies under its hooves, or a fey can teach her bear to throw boulders. The mounts can gain experience in their own right. They also get tired and need food and rest. You must look after your mount or else it will not be capable of fighting alongside you.
You can also find special potions in the game that add different features to your mount. For example you can change the colour of your mount or even transform a horse into a zebra or a bear into a panda!

MMOsite.com: What kind of player economy can we expect to see in Carpe Diem?
Jonathan Latham:
The economy system in Carpe Diem is largely player driven. There are some non player characters around the game who will sell the basics to players but they do not have special items. However, players can find items that monsters drop and also create and magically imbue items. These can be traded between players and there is a trading and shop window in the game.

There is also a sophisticated crafting system within the game that allows players to develop many special items. Within the game the player find specific items and take them to one of the many blacksmiths around who will complete the final item for them.

MMOsite.com: Currently, Carpe Diem is under beta testing and its due for launch late summer. When it launches, what revenue model will gamers expect?
Jonathan Latham:
The launch is likely to be late summer /early autumn ¨C we still have a lot to do in development and polishing. The revenue model is still under discussion because we want to bring the best possible model we can for gamers that still lets us feed our families!
